Conclusion

In my opinion, keel boats present a special challenge at WSC when launching or retrieving as compared to boats with adjustable centerboards and daggerboards.

The 40" draught is a good dividing measure.

Below the 40" draught, skippers still have significant challenges to overcome to cope with the difficulties of launching and retrieving. They should be aware of the potential for problems as well as have access to the proper equipment so they can launch/retrieve their crafts in a safe and expedient manner.

Above 40"draught, skippers must obtain the approval of the HARBOURMASTER in order to launch ther boat as they face greater difficulties and must prove to the HARBOURMASTER that they are prepared to cope with the additional problems by having the proper equipment and appreciation of the potential for problems. If they can prove to the satisfaction of the HARBOURMASTER that they are properly prepared, they should be allowed to launch their boat.

And now for a look at how other groups have solved their challenge of launching a keel boat at a ramp.
